  Week 4: September 26-30 Academic Updates Most of our early assessments are complete and we are excited to dig in to our curriculum and enjoy some exciting learning. This week we will begin our study of the digraphs sh and ch. Each day we will study words with these sounds in a slightly different way. By Friday students should be able to recognize the sound orally and write the corresponding letters. We will continue to practice finding the main idea in books we read together. In math we will continue collecting and interpreting data. Thank you to everyone who has signed up to send in apples.  The children will appreciate it, as do we! Week 3: September 19-23 Back to School Night Please join us Monday evening at 5:45 in your child’s classroom. This is an adults-only event. You will be able to see your child’s classroom and hear about our school day.  We will answer any questions you may have about First Grade in general. Individual conferences will be held in October for child-specific conversations.  Picture Day School pictures will be taken on Thursday, September 22. All students will have their picture made for school ID purposes.  Order forms went home last week if you would like to purchase prints.   NWEA Students will take their Fall NWEA standardized tests in Reading and Math this week.  Academic Updates This week we will continue to practice distinguishing long vowel sounds from short vowel sounds.  We will begin to work on determining the main idea and supporting details in text.   Week 2: September 12-16 Wow!  What an amazing first week of 1st Grade! Getting to Know You Last week we shared this digital survey.  Thank you to everybody who completed it.  If you haven’t yet, please find a few minutes to answer the questions and submit it.  You have also received paper “get to know you” forms. We apologize for all the questions, especially those that seem redundant. We really appreciate all the information we can gather to help us meet the needs of all our Firsties. Welcome!

  September 6–9 Welcome! We had so much fun at the Ice Cream Social connecting names and faces! We can’t wait to get to know our students better in the coming days and weeks. At Back to School Night, on September 19, we will have a chance to talk with parents and share all the exciting things about 1st grade.  For questions or concerns, we are available via email (see below).
