Week 2
Week 2: September 12-16
Wow! What an amazing first week of 1st Grade!
Getting to Know You
Last week we shared this digital survey. Thank you to everybody who completed it. If you haven’t yet, please find a few minutes to answer the questions and submit it. You have also received paper “get to know you” forms. We apologize for all the questions, especially those that seem redundant. We really appreciate all the information we can gather to help us meet the needs of all our Firsties. Thanks so much for your help.
Academic Updates
We spent our first week together getting to know each other and our learning spaces. Our focus was on routines and procedures necessary in order for students to learn and grow. We’ve begun administering some baseline assessments to help us determine instructional needs. This coming week we will begin to introduce some of our academic content including phonemic awareness, Mystery Science, and practicing the three ways to read a book.
Ask your Firstie
How does your teacher get the attention of the class?
What are some of the books your teacher read to the class this week?
What are some of the math tools you explored this week?
Reminders/Misc.
We have 2 opportunities for snack daily. It is expected that students provide their own.
If students are having breakfast, they may enter through the lunchroom door in the morning and should do so as soon as they arrive at school.
Students may have library books in their backpacks. They are due back at school each library day.
