Week 3
Week 3: September 19-23
Back to School Night
Please join us Monday evening at 5:45 in your child’s classroom. This is an adults-only event. You will be able to see your child’s classroom and hear about our school day. We will answer any questions you may have about First Grade in general. Individual conferences will be held in October for child-specific conversations.
Picture Day
School pictures will be taken on Thursday, September 22. All students will have their picture made for school ID purposes. Order forms went home last week if you would like to purchase prints.
NWEA
Students will take their Fall NWEA standardized tests in Reading and Math this week.
Academic Updates
This week we will continue to practice distinguishing long vowel sounds from short vowel sounds. We will begin to work on determining the main idea and supporting details in text. Our Positivity Project theme is open-mindedness. In Math we will be sorting, categorizing, and interpreting data. Our first Science unit, called Sun and Shadows, will be ongoing. In Social Studies we will consider how school is like a family.
Johnny Appleseed Day
Johnny Appleseed Day is Monday, September 26. We will read about the life of John Chapman and enjoy some activities. Please consider sending in apples for the class. We will keep them on hand for snack throughout the week. Sign up here by adding your name underneath your child’s teacher’s name.
