Week 20

  Week 20: January 30-February 3 Academic Updates We are working on: Long i patterns in words like: bike, sight, tie, etc. Summarizing fiction and nonfiction texts Comparing numbers to 100 using symbols and vocabulary such as greater than, less than, and equal to Understanding maps Transparent, opaque, and translucent materials Displaying kindness Valentines Day Our classes will be celebrating on February 14th by exchanging Valentine cards and enjoying hot cocoa and a movie.  You are welcome to send in cards from home.  We will also have cards on hand at school for kiddos to make if you choose not to make any at home. We ask that if you make cards at home you send enough for every child in class to get one. Mrs. Fiesbeck has 25 students and Ms. Gould each have 24 students.  Because this is a low-key celebration we are asking parents not to join us.  101st Day We also celebrate the 101st Day of 1st Grade.  This year the 101st day happens to be on Valentine’s...

  Week 19: January 23-27 Academic Updates We are working on: Long o patterns in words such as old, cold, cone, hope, etc. Inferring and summarizing  Opinion writing Estimation Counting large collections Adding and subtracting 10s Identifying and appreciating the good in others Read IN! On Wednesday we will be having a Read In. This is a fun way for Firsties to build their reading stamina and for us to reinforce that reading is fun.  We will spend a block of the day doing nothing but…reading! To make it special, students may bring a clear, resealable drink; snack; blanket or beach towel; pillow; and books from home. Students must be able to carry whatever they bring.  Please label their supplies with their name and please keep stuffed animals at home.  Tuesday is National Compliment Day We will be practicing giving and receiving compliments.  Please join us at home! National Hat Day is January 15, but we will celebrate on Tuesday.  Firsties may wear baseball or other indoor hats during the school day.
